Now, the regional government, specifically Mayor Sahrudin, has amended the regulation and ratified it by the Tangerang City Council (DPRD).
The regulation aims to weaken the Tangerang City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), which has been actively combating drug trafficking and prostitution.
In response, the Chairman of the Tangerang City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), Rusdi Alam, confirmed that there is no discussion on the zoning of alcohol distribution.
Moreover, the legalization of prostitution, which contradicts the social and moral values of the Tangerang City community, is on the agenda.
Rusdi made this assurance in response to the zoning issue in the proposed revisions to Regional Regulation No. 7 concerning the control of alcoholic beverages and Regional Regulation No. 8 concerning the prohibition of prostitution, which are currently being widely discussed.
“Our principle in the DPRD is clear: every revision of a regional regulation is oriented towards improvement and refinement, not in the context of loosening regulations,” Rusdi emphasized.
Regarding the proposed revisions to Regional Regulations 7 and 8, Rusdi stated that his office has not yet received an official draft of the revised regulations from the proponent, in this case the Tangerang City Satpol PP.
Therefore, the deliberation process has not yet begun and is still at the agenda stage in the 2026 Regional Legislation Program (Prolegda).
“The issue of prostitution zoning was never part of the 2026 Prolegda agenda.
The Tangerang City Council (DPRD), along with the Tangerang City Government, is committed to maintaining social order by strengthening regulations that are relevant to current developments,” explained Rusdi.
The Tangerang City DPRD believes that improving the regional regulation is necessary to adapt the regulation to the dynamics of society, including the development of digital-based activities and transactions that have not been specifically regulated.
“In every stage of the regional regulation draft deliberation, we always prioritize the principles of prudence, transparency, and public benefit.
And we will not ratify regulations that have the potential to cause negative social impacts,” Rusdi emphasized.
