The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Pijar Banten supports the free private school program for elementary and junior high schools run by the Tangerang City Government on Sunday (July 20th).
This program is considered a strategic step in ensuring equitable and quality access to education for all levels of society, especially in Tangerang City.
Haerul Herdinsyah, Chairman of the Non-Governmental Organization Presidium of the Banten People’s Network (LSM PIJAR BANTEN), stated that the free private school program demonstrates the local government’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources from an early age.
“We greatly appreciate the Tangerang City Government’s steps.
Education is a basic right of every child, and this program paves the way for children from underprivileged families to continue learning without the burden of costs,” Haerul said in a press conference held Saturday afternoon (July 19th, 2025).
In addition to supporting the free private school program, the NGO Pijar Banten is committed to overseeing its implementation, particularly in terms of monitoring private schools.
According to Haerul, there are still reports of private schools, both elementary and junior high, not complying with regulations, such as charging fees outside the established limits or discriminating against students from certain groups.
“We will collaborate and synergize with the Tangerang City Education Office to conduct direct monitoring in the field.
Private schools that receive assistance or operational permits from the government must comply with applicable regulations,” said Haerul.
“We must not let the spirit of equal education be undermined by irresponsible individuals,” he added.
The NGO Pijar Banten will also establish a public complaints post and is ready to receive reports from parents regarding irregularities in schools, both public and private.
“This step is expected to promote transparency and improve the quality of educational services in Tangerang City,” he concluded.
