Therefore, we are exploring collaboration with an energy-based waste processing program as a long-term solution.

Tangerang Regent Moch Maesyal Rasyid attended the Banten Province-wide Waste Management Coordination Meeting (Rakor) held at the Banten Governor’s Hall on Friday (September 12, 2025).

The meeting was chaired by Banten Governor Andra Soni and attended by officials from district/city governments throughout Banten Province, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

On that occasion, Regent Maesyal Rasyid explained the state of waste management in Tangerang Regency, particularly at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA).

He explained that of the total 33 hectares of the Jatiwaringin TPA, approximately 28 hectares have been filled using open dumping methods, leaving only 5 hectares remaining.

The Minister of Environment and Forestry, who personally visited the landfill, requested that the Jatiwaringin TPA be immediately reorganized using sanitary landfill methods.

“We have allocated Rp 15 billion through the BTT budget, including for the construction of access roads and the implementation of sanitary landfill methods.

Currently, improvements have been made, including waste compaction, leachate pond management, and road access construction,” said Regent Maesyal Rasyid.

He further explained that Tangerang Regency produces around 2,500 to 2,700 tons of waste per day.

Only around 60% of the waste can be transported to the landfill due to limited facilities and infrastructure.

The large amount of waste is also influenced by, among other factors, the public’s mindset of littering.

“The remaining unmanaged waste, along with the community’s mindset and habits, pose a challenge for the local government.

Our Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK) has to transport waste multiple times a day, but the volume remains unmanaged.

Therefore, we are exploring collaboration with an energy-based waste processing program as a long-term solution,” he added.

On the same occasion, Banten Governor Andra Soni emphasized the importance of synergy between the central, provincial, and district/city governments in developing more effective and sustainable waste management policies.

“The waste problem is a strategic issue in Banten.

We hope this coordination meeting will produce concrete steps so that regions in Banten can be assisted, directed, and guided in sustainable waste management,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rosa Vivin, reminded that the national target for waste management is 100% by 2029.

Currently, Banten Province is only able to manage around 13.4% of the total daily waste generated.

“Therefore, local governments must immediately improve their landfills by stopping open dumping practices and implementing sanitary landfills.

They must also develop supporting facilities such as RDF (Recyclable Waste Management), waste banks, and environmentally friendly technology-based processing,” he explained.

He hoped that the waste management coordination meeting would strengthen the commitment and cooperation of all districts/cities in Banten in addressing the increasingly complex waste problem, while also supporting the creation of a healthy and sustainable environment.
